Dog Bite: What is Your Advice to Those People Who Have Been Injured by a Friend’s Pet But Don’t Want to Harm the Friendship by Pressing Charges?

Responsible people purchase insurance for a reason. We want to be insured in the event that something accidental happens on our property. Just as we are insured for negligent driving and possible defects on our property, we are insured in the even our dog, for whatever reason, bites a guest or some other person. Insurance allows for easy remedies in these cases most of the time.

Some insurance companies have decided not to insure certain breeds of dogs that may be known for inflicting grave bodily injuries. There are some insurance companies that may not insure dogs like Pitbulls, Rottweilers and German Shepherds, so we need to obtain the homeowners or renters insurance policy of the dog owner in order to make a preliminary determination as to whether the dogs’ conduct is covered, but in my experience, it usually is covered.
