Motorcyclists are inherently vulnerable to accidents that cause death and catastrophic injuries.
Ride defensively. Use your lights. Maintain a safe distance from other vehicles. Scan for traffic far out so that you can anticipate potential problems upstream. Avoid situations that are beyond your skill and experience.
I advise my motorcyclist clients not to “split lanes.” Although it is legal to ride between two designated traffic lanes, that doesn’t mean it is safe. When you split lanes you are greatly increasing the likelihood that another motorist is going to strike you. Use the law as your guide, but go beyond that, and use good common sense.
