Even before the recent media attention on the heinous acts of public figures like Bill Cosby and Sterling Sharp, Emanuel Law Group has been retained by victims to prosecute civil claims involving drugging and rape. In 2010, we obtained a jury award of more than $400,000 against the owner of a Silicon Valley venture capital firm who maliciously drugged and raped his own wife. Sadly, the perpetrator was never criminally prosecuted. The civil jury awarded allowed our client to hold the perpetrator accountable, to stand up for herself, and unmask the perpetrator who lied repeatedly about what had transpired during their marriage. The defendant appealed the civil verdict and lost. In fact, with the help of our appellate attorney, Gary Simms, the perpetrator was ordered to pay an additional sum of more than $400,000, increasing the total award to more than $800,000. The victim’s compensation was invaluable in providing some financial security for herself and her children.
